Story: Beauty and Belonging
I have a ritual. I walk into the front door of my apartment and I immediately set the music to the tone of my mood. Then I begin to neatly arrange all the objects and prettly little ornaments to the places that they belong. I might even spray some perfume and light some candles. Knowing that everything has its place and fits in with my visual aesthetic is my 'sense of belonging'.
By creating my own beautiful world, I know that I have a place of shelter, a cocoon for me to belong. With the stresses of the outside environment, I like knowing that I have this safe haven. When something has happened at university, an argument with a friend or my work not progressing well, then I return home and as I perform my ritual, I begin to feel better.
